All of these learning opportunities are free except for the optional IDI Assessments.
Program Goals
Foster cultural humility through lifelong learning, reflection, and dialogue
Enhance intercultural sensitivity using Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) informed approaches
Practice active listening and collaborative dialogue
Create a shared, inclusive space for mutual understanding across cultures
Pre-Assessment: Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI)
Optional: Participants complete the IDI assessment with debrief. Contact Ben to sign-up. Results inform individual development goals(Greenholtz, 2000)
Free Training: Cultural Humility & Active Listening & Cultural Frameworks
Free Practicum
**Required: Choose between the following Practice Sessions:
Online: Weekly Intercultural Dialogue Discussions (Zoom)
Practice humility, active listening, and reflection using Throughline episodes
Small groups (5 max) with trained Peace Volunteer facilitators
Reflect on how historical narratives shape culture and perception(Aski et al., 2023)
In Person: 1-on-1 Cross-Cultural Conversations
Casual, structured dialogue with a partner from another background
Emphasis on curiosity, humility, and mutual learning
(Sample, 2013)
Other IEPV events and classes in person or on Zoom such as the 3 in 3 program, the interreligious education discussions, and some of the language classes that emphasize intercultural learning and sharing.
**Required: Micro-Reflections:
A short journal prompt (200–300 words) from each session emailed to Ben
Prompts include:
“What perspective today challenged your thinking?”
“What cultural insight did you gain from another participant?”
“How might this change how you engage with others?”
Or any of our self-reflective practice questions: Self-Reflective Intercultural Practice questions (Altshuler et al., 2003)

Optional second IDI to measure growth
Certificates will be awarded based on the required participation in IEPV sessions and the completion of emailed micro-reflections. Additional intercultural learning opportunities outside of IEPV programs may also be considered, provided that they meet our micro-reflection requirements. Email to ben@peacevolunteers.ngo
Certificate Tiers
To encourage long-term engagement and celebrate ongoing learning, IEPV offers a multi-tier certification model that builds in increments of 10 sessions with 10 microreflections. Each level deepens participants' capacity for intercultural dialogue, humility, and leadership.
Certificate of Intercultural Communication Training: Bridge Builder (10 Sessions)
Focus: Foundations of cultural humility, active listening, and understanding difference “Listening is the first step toward peace.”
Certificate of Intercultural Communication Training: Dialogue Practitioner (20 Sessions)
Focus: Sustained engagement in reflective dialogue and recognition of complexity“Dialogue transforms understanding into connection.”
Certificate of Intercultural Learning and Service: Cultural Connector (30 Sessions)
Focus: Recognizing patterns, practicing empathy, and beginning to mentor others“Bridging cultures starts with knowing your own.”
Certificate of Intercultural Learning and Service: Peace Facilitator (40 Sessions)
Focus: Leading inclusive discussions and modeling humility in community settings“Humility in action creates harmony in community.”
Certificate of Intercultural Learning and Service: Harmony Advocate (50 Sessions)
Focus: Co-facilitating dialogue spaces, integrating intercultural theory into action“Peace grows where understanding leads.”
Certificate of Advanced Intercultural Service: Intercultural Guide (60 Sessions)
Focus: Supporting others’ development, offering reflection coaching and perspective bridging“A guide listens, reflects, and lights the way.”
Certificate of Advanced Intercultural Service: Unity Builder (70 Sessions)
Focus: Designing or curating discussion materials, nurturing collective growth“Unity begins with curiosity and care.”
Certificate of Global Intercultural Leadership: Global Listener (80 Sessions)
Focus: Deep intercultural listening, mentoring at scale, modeling nonjudgmental presence“The world needs more listeners than lecturers.”
Certificate of Global Intercultural Leadership: Community Peacemaker (90 Sessions)
Focus: Cultivating networks of dialogue, resilience, and restorative peace practices“Peace is a community art.”
Certificate of Graduation: Cultural Humility Fellow (100 Sessions)
Focus: Embodying and teaching intercultural humility as a lifelong practice“Humility is not a destination; it’s a daily invitation.”
Participants will receive digital certificates and we are currently in the process of developing some sort of LinkedIn badge credentials at each milestone. Certificates may include recognition in our website, newsletters, Linkedin, or celebration events.
